| Chesterton Lodge # 1623 was
instituted on December 12, 1971, with 178 Charter Members. Its first and only Lodge Home
at 602 Broadway was completely consumed by fire on September 6, 1975, with only four walls
and the roof left standing. Within weeks, the debris left by the fire was completely
removed and renovation work was under way. Due to the combined and untiring efforts of the
members the renovation was completed in time for the Lodge's annual anniversary
celebration.
Since the early years of our lodge the membership has continued to expand. The
Chesterton Lodge currently rosters approximately 1200 Lodge Brothers and nearly 400 Women
of the Moose.
The Chapter of the Women of the Moose (Chapter # 846) was founded in December of 1972
with 50 Charter Members. The ladies of the Women of the Moose are a vital source of ideas,
energy, and financial support for various events.
The active Moose Legion Club attracts members to dinners and other programs.
Community service programs have been primarily focused on the young people of
Chesterton, with the lodge actively participating in Boy and Girl Scouting, Little League
and other youth athletics. Lodge involvement extends beyond merely financial support as a
number of members lead Scout dens, coach youth athletic teams, and deliver meals on
wheels. By participating in the community the Chesterton Moose Lodge has become known as a
major contributor to the betterment of our town.
Chesterton Lodge members are some of the most fraternalistic and regularly extend
a
helping hand - not only to its own members but also to other Moose families, lodges, and
communities in the way of disaster relief, ritual assistance, and donations of equipment
and supplies. Requests for help are always responded to cheerfully, willingly, and with
expediency.
Chesterton members also enjoy lodge activities such as the Moose Camping Club, Moose
League Bowling, Moose League Golfing, and both Family and Adult Karaoke (more commonly
referred to as 'croaking').
We look forward to your visit to Chesterton.
Thank you, Brother Dan Gribble, for this brief history of the
Chesterton Moose Lodge. |
